About the Developer
About Peter Schlumpf Peter Schlumpf is the founder and Project Manager of Avanti Library Systems, a pioneering effort in open source software for libraries, where he created the Avanti MicroLCS library computing system. Peter has a B. S. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. He has dedicated his work to the advancement of computing technology in libraries since 1985 when he was employed at the Kewanee Public Library in Kewanee, Illinois. He has also worked as a programmer for Illinet Online at the University of Illinois, and managed the computer systems at the North Suburban Library System in Wheeling, Illinois. He managed the computer network at the Mount Prospect Library in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Peter is author of a number of papers on the modeling of circulation control and open source software in libraries. He has spoken about open source software in libraries at conferences and symposia including the Summer 2000 ALA Annual in Chicago. Through his work in the Avanti Library Systems project, Peter hopes to provide the library community with a new kind of automated library system that combines innovation, careful design, and simplicity in an open source solution. |
