22 July 2010. Nova version 0.1 released
Nova version 0.1 has been released. This is a prototype version that demonstrates the basic concepts of the Nova semantic mapping system.

8 July 2010. Nova version 0.1 prototype to be released 15 July 2010.
A prototype that establishes the core ideas and scripting language of the Nova semantic mapping system will be released by 15 July 2010. The prototype provides an interactive command line interface for issuing commands and for running Nova programs. Documentation and a simple test application will be included.

7 June 2010. Nova
Avanti Library Systems will soon release Nova, a semantic mapping system that can be used in a variety of contexts. It is initially being developed to be used as an online catalog. However, the Nova software is very general and can also be used to implement topic maps, content management systems, complex data structures such as MARC records, or any application that needs to dynamically map and query relationships among sets of objects.

Nova can be used in several ways. It has a scripting language used to manipulate semantic maps. It will also have native client/server capabilities, and provides a Java API for integration with other applications. At its core is a data structure that stores a semantic map. Nova is ultimately a new way of looking at semantic data.

Software that has the basic capabilities along with documentation and the API will be made available here by late June or early July 2010. More details to follow.

What is this thing of dots and 1's? It is a semantic map. It can be used in all kinds of things to map relationships between objects. It's not quite a database though it may behave like one.
We are currently working on a new project developing a sementic mapping system. It can be used for a variety of applications including topic maps content management and even implementing a library OPAC. More details and a prototype will be be available here in the coming weeks.
