Introduction Avanti MicroLCS is a simple powerful OPAC and cataloging system for use in small libraries. It is configured to catalog and search up to 16,000 titles and 32,000 items. MicroLCS offers full Boolean search capability in both the cataloging and search only client programs. With the Java applet client the catalog can also be searched over the Internet. MicroLCS provides tools for managing the catalog directly as well as the ability to import records via delimited text format. A test version of a MARC import program is also available. MicroLCS is able to run on both Windows and Linux. Fully client/server, it has no set limit to the number of clients that can connect to the server. The current version of MicroLCS is an OPAC and cataloging system only and right now does not support circulation capability. Circulation is under development and will be included in the next major release. MicroLCS emphasizes simplicity and quality. The result is an OPAC with a set of features that are well designed and easy to use. User interfaces are clean and consistent. By providing a simple and straightforward interface for both staff and patrons, the learning curve, training time and costs are reduced while providing an undistracted user experience. This User's Guide helps you get MicroLCS installed and running on your library's computer and network. It also serves as a tutorial that introduces the system and shows you how to use it effectively. Installation instructions in this manual are written for computers running Windows but the general steps are analogous to computers running Linux. Home Getting Started >> |
